(Senior) Purchaser

PNP Pharmaceuticals is seeking an experienced (Senior) Purchaser to join our team!
 
PNP was established in 1999 and has rapidly grown to become one of Canada’s most respected and reliable contract manufacturers of nutraceuticals and pharmaceuticals. We provide unique and innovative formulations based on our client’s specifications. Today, PNP manufactures high-quality nutraceutical and OTC products for markets worldwide.
 
We are looking for the ideal candidate for the position at PNP.  Depending on the experience of the chosen candidate this will be a Purchaser or Senior Purchaser role.  We are currently in an exciting phase of development and growth. Duties and Responsibilities
Primary
  • Support Supply Chain management in planning and executing all purchasing processes.
  • Assist in coaching, training and managing the performance of the new or junior staff.
  • Monitor all purchasing activities.
  • Design and iterate cost-effective purchasing processes that ensure the flow of inventory, guarantee optimum stock levels, and meet turnover goals.
  • Negotiate purchase requisitions and orders; adapt negotiation strategies to new circumstances or issues that arise.
  • Liaise between suppliers, manufacturers, customers, and internal departments.
  • Stay current on both internal and external factors impacting procurement.
  • Execute the organization’s purchasing policies, procedures, standards, and strategies.
  • Propose alternative arrangements in the event of shortages or delayed deliveries to minimize impact on the Company.
  • Recommend cost-savings alternatives for management review and considerations.
  • Execute and process claims against suppliers, ensuring accurate processing of all debits, damages, chargebacks, and transfers based on Company policies and procedures.
  • Source potential suppliers.
  • Build and maintain strong relationship with current suppliers.
  • Analyze and evaluate vendors and suppliers’ performance to improve purchasing process.
  • Assist other departments with sourcing items for special projects.
  • Organize, secure, and maintain files and documentation.
  • Prepare routine reports.
  • Act as Purchasing lead in the absence of direct leader to provide support and direction to the Purchasing team.
  • Identify varied sources of materials and evaluate standards for new products to assist team requirements and achieve material needs of the organization.
  • Keep continuous contact with vendors by maintaining comprehensive descriptions of products and current prices.
  • Generate, review, and track purchase order status for all materials.
  • Oversees material flow to support planning production schedules based on inventory levels.
  • Support the maintenance of ERP, worksheets, lists, and databases.
  • Follow all applicable standard operating procedures (SOPs) to maintain safety, quality and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in and provide suggestions for the development and continuous improvement of all departmental processes.

Additional
  • Attend local and international relevant trade shows, seminars, and webinars, as needed.
  • Year end inventory counts (October – November) fiscal counts are required.
  • Participate in and further the Company’s health & safety program.
  • Report equipment malfunctions immediately.
  • Report quality deficiencies immediately.
  • Offer suggestions for process improvement.
  • Other related duties.
 
Qualifications
Knowledge
  • Fluent in verbal and written English.
  • 3 years of experience as a Purchaser.
Assets
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). 
  • Experience in food / pharmaceutical / nutraceutical industry.
  • Post-secondary degree in purchasing management/administration or related field.
Skills
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Basic proficiency in mathematics (adding, subtracting, multiplying & dividing).
  • Basic proficiency in using computers.
  • Basic proficiency in using the Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong in analytics.
  • Strong decision-making.
  • Strong negotiation.
  • Strong organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Strong in working with people and relationship building.

Abilities
  • Lift a minimum of 10 kg.
  • Work independently on assigned duties.
  • Balance a variety of competing priorities while meeting deadlines.

  • Must be in good health with no communicable diseases or dust allergies.
  • Must follow appropriate gowning procedure before going into production area.
  • Follow health & safety regulations.
