Position Summary

The Quality Manager provides overall leadership and direction for the Quality Assurance (QA), Quality Control (QC), and Regulatory Affairs (RA) functions. This role ensures that the company’s operations comply with internal standards, regulatory requirements, and certification programs, while driving a culture of compliance and continuous improvement across all three quality departments.

Duties and Responsibilities

Primary
  • Act as a key member of the senior leadership team, influencing decision-making to ensure product quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead, mentor, and guide the QA, QC, and RA Leads/managers, ensuring alignment and collaboration across all quality functions.
  • Develop and maintain a unified electronic Quality Management System (QMS) as well as document control systems (covering food, natural health products, and pharmaceuticals), to ensure data integrity and traceability as well as audit readiness.
  • Oversee and review quality programs, including product testing, batch record review, deviations, OOS/NCR/CAPA investigations, audits, complaints, recalls, and change control.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies (Health Canada, FDA, Australia TGA, and other international regulations) and certification standards (BRCGS, NSF-GMP, Kosher, Halal, Organic, Gluten Free, Informed Choice, HACCP, Food Defence).
  • Represent the company during audits, inspections, and client quality reviews; ensure timely closure of findings and corrective actions.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee the supplier quality management program, including qualification, risk-based auditing, performance monitoring, and requalification of raw and packaging materials as well as service providers.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and industry standards, assess impacts, and implement necessary updates across all quality departments.
  • Provide strategic direction for quality-related risk assessments, trend analysis, and KPI reporting to senior management.
  • Foster collaboration with Production, R&D, Supply Chain, and Maintenance to maintain consistent product quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and deliver site-wide Quality and GMP programs to promote awareness, ownership, and a proactive quality culture.
  • Drive a culture of quality, continuous improvement, and operational excellence across the organization.
  • Manage department budgets, resources, and staffing plans; ensure quality teams are trained, developed, and supported.
 

Qualifications

Knowledge
  • Canadian university degree (or equivalent) in a science-related field (e.g., chemistry, biology, food science, pharmaceutical sciences).
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive experience in quality leadership, including management of QA, QC, and RA teams as well as QMS.
  • Strong knowledge of GMP, regulatory frameworks (e.g. Health Canada, FDA), and certification requirements for food, natural health products, and pharmaceuticals.
  • Sound knowledge of root cause analysis and CAPA management.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing managers and cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to balance compliance, operational needs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience applying Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies is considered an asset.
  • Experience with supplier qualification and auditing programs is an asset.
  •  Experience in a paperless work environment with strong system technology understanding.

Compensation

$85,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
